90% drop in Google Search Market Share for first time since 2015

The global search engine market of Google went down below 90% during the last three months of 2024. It’s quite surprising as some reports state that it’s being observed for the first time since 2015, according to Search Engine Land.

Some reports claim that Google’s market share was 89.34% , 89.99%, and 89.73% for October, November, and December respectively.

The last time it took place was in March 2015 when it fell to 89.52%. Also, it was down in February at 89.47% and 89.62% in January that year.

The trend of Google losing its search market share is being observed especially in Asia and is consistent in all other regions.

If we focus specifically on the US, Google’s search engine market share saw a rise of 90.37% in November but again fell to 87.39% in December.

The reason for this kind of fluctuation is still unknown. It could be due to the engagement of the users to artificial intelligence search engines such as ChatGPT and Meta AI but there is no any appropriate reason known till date.

Also, it is very difficult to find out the exact reason for this downfall as the data trackers like Statcounter can only track traditional search engines like Bing, Yandexz Yahoo, Baidu, etc.

But it also can’t be ignored that the traditional search engines like Bing, Yandex, and Yahoo had stolen some of Google’s lost share, in which Bing occupied the second place at just under 4% market share for the final five months of 2024.

Some reports are stating that this kind of scenario also takes place when Google is under attack for proximity to two years due to rising unhelpfulness of its search results due to a constant 90-92% market share for almost a decade.
