GPRS(General Packet Radio Service) is basically an older technology, and most modern mobile network providers in India primarily use 4G and 5G. However, the fundamental concept of Access Point Names (APNs) remains crucial for internet connectivity regardless of the generation (2G/3G/4G/5G).
This article was initially published in 2010, and much has changed since then. Earlier, we used to use GPRS to access the Internet on a Mobile device, but today we use 4G and 5G network types to access the Internet. Also, the Indian telecom landscape has transformed significantly with the entry of new network providers and the consolidation or discontinuation of several others. Nevertheless, we are committed to keeping this article updated with the latest details for all network providers in India.
In this article, we will see the APN Settings for Airtel, Jio, Vi and BSNL, all major network providers in India.
Most modern smartphones will configure these settings on your phone automatically whenever the SIM card is inserted. However, sometimes these settings do not get saved, and you may face connectivity issues. In such case, we need to manually configure these settings on your phone.
How to Manually Configure APN Settings
Below is a step-by-step guide to update APN Details on your Phone. We have listed steps for Android and iPhone(iOS) devices. Based on your phone model, you can follow them.
For Most Android phones:
- Go to Settings on your Phone
- Navigate to Mobile Network, SIM Cards & Mobile Networks, or Connections. (The exact wording may slightly differ due to different Android versions and phone manufacturers.)
- Select Access Point Name (APN) or Mobile Data Network.
- Tap on the Add button (or a “+” sign, or a three-dot menu for ‘New APN’) to create a new APN or select an existing one to edit.
- Enter the APN Details of your network provider (refer to these details from the table mentioned below in this article)
- Save the new APN Detail. Now, restart your phone for the settings to take full effect.
For iPhone (iOS device):
- Go to Settings on your phone.
- Tap on Cellular data –> Mobile Data Network or Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Options -> Mobile Data Network.
- Under APN Field, update APN details as per your network provider.
- Now go back to the previous screen, and it will automatically save the details. Restart your iPhone to ensure settings are applied.
Note: If you did not see the Cellular Data or Mobile Data option, it means the carrier does not allow manual APN changes. You will need to contact the network service provider.

APN | www or viinternet |
Note: You can also send an SMS with “ALL” to 199 to receive internet settings automatically.
APN Settings for BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigham Limited)
BSNL offers 2G, 3G, and 4G Services in India. However, the APN to access the Internet remains common for all services, i.e., bsnlnet.

Dear Internet Friend,
This is very good and collective information for all SIMs, but you may please add Access/Dial-up Number with every connection/SIM, without these number one cannot connect to the internet using that SIM Setting from PC to Internet. Mobile GPRS does not require access number but PC to GPRS Internet connection, need it verily.
Please add and help all..
Thank you and best regards,
