Update: Please note that most add-ons are now outdated. Kindly review them before installing any Add-ons on Firefox.
Firefox is one of the best browsers because of its numerous extensions available to enhance the browser’s functionality. Firefox was the first to introduce the Add-On feature, making the browser more user-friendly and customizable. This led to better control and a better browsing experience. Today, there are tons of Firefox extensions available, but only a few add-ons are on my list. I will be showing my top favorite Firefox add-on, which I generally use. These Top 10 Add-ons are a must-have for Firefox to make the web experience better.
10.) GreaseMonkey
Greasemonkey gives you the power to customize or change any webpage according to your needs using JavaScript. Customize the way a web page displays or behaves by using small bits of JavaScript. Hundreds of scripts for a wide variety of popular sites are already available at http://userscripts.org. You can write your scripts, too. Check out http://wiki.greasespot.net/ to get started.
9.) Personas Plus
Everybody needs change, and so does the browser; this could be possible with a Personas add-on. Personas are free, easy-to-install “skins” for Firefox. Personas Plus extends that built-in functionality to give you even greater control and easier access to new, popular, and even your own favorite Personas.
8.) Firebug
Firebug would be helpful for people who are into programming or have knowledge about programming. This extension comes very handy for me since I have to work primarily on code. Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live on any web page.
7.) Google Shortcuts
This add-on is convenient, as I frequently use many Google products and services. It will remain on the toolbar in the dropdown menu as a shortcut to various Google products and services. It’s like One Click and Go. Display all Google services as buttons or as a space-saving dropdown menu next to your address bar. Access services like Gmail, Google Reader, Google Maps, Google Calendar, and many more in a single click from your browser.
6.) WebMail Notifier
Check your mail while you’re browsing; it also notifies you when there’s new mail. Notifies for Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, and more webmail. WebMail Notifier checks your webmail accounts and notifies you of the number of unread emails.
Supports: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, Daum, Naver, Nate, Paran, POP3/IMAP, and more.
5.) Skipscreen
One of my favorite methods for downloading files from File-Sharing Sites like Rapidshare, Mediafire, 4shared, etc. Skipscreen skips the countdown page, allowing you to download files directly without waiting. Skips unnecessary pages on sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, zShare, Mediafire, and more. Try it out, or watch a demo at http://www.skipscreen.com.
Why click through ad-laden pages and wait for countdowns when your computer can do it for you?
4.) Adblock Plus
Annoyed by adverts? Troubled by tracking? Bothered by banners? Install Adblock Plus now to regain control of the internet and change the way that you view the web.
3.) Noscript
NoScript is one of the popular tools used in the Firefox extensions. The best security you can get in a web browser. Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS and Clickjacking attacks. Firefox is safer with NoScript.
2.) SEO for Firefox Extension and SEO Toolbar
This is my personal favorite, and I use this tool for my blogging needs. For bloggers and webmasters, this is an essential tool for Firefox extensions. Using SEO for Firefox, you can get every detail of any site while searching on Google or Yahoo. Using the SEO Toolbar, you can access every minute detail of the site as soon as you enter it. The toolbar will display all the details.
Note: For this tool, you may need to register with the above site, i.e., SEOBOOK.
