Google to start using your Google+ profile name and picture in their Google Endorsement Ads

Google Endorsement Ads with your Profile Picture and ratingAccording to updated Google’s new Terms of Service on October 11, 2013, Google has made some changes in their respective terms and service agreement, which will be effective from November 11, 2013. One of the major changes that would happen in the coming month is that Google will start using your profile name and picture into their ads, which would appear as and when your friends see the Endorsement Ads.

The ads are basically Google Endorsement ads from its advertiser who pays to show ads on Google, when these ads appear, it would also show your profile picture with your rating and review to your friends; it would appear only if you have reviewed or rated earlier via Google+ (+1). For instance, you have rated and commented for a specific restaurant; your profile picture and rating would be shown to your friend whenever the ads appear for that restaurant.

Google explain on how your profile picture and name will be used and how it would be beneficial for your friends and people you know.

We want to give you – and your friends and connections – the most useful information. Recommendations from people you know can really help. So your friends, family and others may see your Profile name and photo, and content like the reviews you share or the ads you +1’d. This only happens when you take an action (things like +1’ing, commenting or following) – and the only people who see it are the people you’ve chosen to share that content with. On Google, you’re in control of what you share.

However, Google is kind enough not to bound us with its new Term and Services. Google has provided an option to Opt out from its Ads program. You can simply go to Shared Endorsements setting page and select the checkbox option to uncheck “Based upon my activity, Google may show my name and profile photo in shared endorsements that appear in ads.” and Click on Save. For Minor (under 18 year) need not to take any action as they have been automatically opted.

This certainly seems interesting and beneficial, if you want to help your friend with your recommendation that you make via (+1). However, showing recommendation only on Endorsement ads also show how it’s beneficial for Google endorsement ads as well. Do Let us know, what you think about this.
