How to Transfer Data from Old iPad to New iPad

If you just upgraded to a new iPad and wondering about moving your data from the old iPad to a new iPad, then you can do that easily without any worry. You to take the backup of all purchased apps, music, books, photos, videos, messages, app organization, bookmarks and device settings. There are two ways by which you can have backup data from old iPad to a new iPad, i.e. via iCloud or via PC (iTunes.)

In case you don’t have a good internet connection then backup via iTunes is a good option. However, in case you do have a good internet connection with an iCloud account then iCloud will be a better option.

Transfer Data from old iPad to a new iPad via iTunes

Migrating data from old iPad to a new iPad via iTunes is one of the oldest methods been used in iPad for backup. You simply need to hook up your iPad to your computer (PC) and Launch iTunes application. The below instructions remain same for both Mac OS X and Windows.

Backup from old iPad

1. Launch iTunes and Connect iPad to a computer system.

2. Right-click on iPad in iTunes and select “Back Up.”

3. Follow the instruction as shown and complete the backup.

Restore to new iPad.

The New iPad on startup will prompt you with three different options i.e., Set Up a new iPad, Restore from iCloud and Restore from iTunes.

1. Turn ON the new iPad Select Restore from iTunes Backup.

2. Connect the new iPad to computer and go to iTunes restore menu to choose the most recent backup to restore.

3. Click Continue and iTunes will start restoring data to new iPad, Do not disconnect the device until the transfer procedure is complete and iPad is rebooted.

Transfer Data from old iPad to a new iPad via iCloud

iCloud is said to be the far most easiest method to backup or to migrate data from old iPad to a new iPad. Since there is no hassle of connecting it to the system and no need of computer to do this. iCloud is a cloud storage which stores your data online, which is secure and safe. Currently, it provides up to 5Gb of disk space to store backup. To Backup using iCloud, you obviously need to have an iCloud account and WiFi connection. If you don’t have an iCloud account, then get it done here.

Backup from old iPad

1. Connect the iPad to the WiFi internet connection

2. Go to Settings –> iCloud, select the data which you need to backup, then tap on “Storage & Backup

3. Tap on “Back up to iCloud” and turn it to ON, It may prompt to start iCoud Backup, Tap on OK to start Backup on to the iCloud.

Restore to new iPad.

The New iPad on startup will prompt you with three different option i.e., Set Up a new iPad, Restore from iCloud and Restore from iTunes.

1. Turn ON the new iPad Select Restore from iCloud Backup.

2. Login to iCloud and select the most recent backup you created on iCloud.

3. Tap on “Restore” to restore data to new iPad.

Note: Time taken for backup and restore depends on the internet connection speed and the amount of data.

Once the Restore is complete you are ready to use your new iPad.

Note: In case you already set up your iPad using new ipad option, you can still restore from iCloud or iTunes. However if you want to return to original setup screen which prompted during the first ipad boot, you may need to reset to factory settings. Go to Settings –> General –> Reset –> Erase All Content Settings. Now when you boot you may see the three option i.e., Set Up a new iPad, Restore from iCloud and Restore from iTunes.
