The iPad mini is more expensive and is not ideal as a starter tablet. It is however, more portable than the Nexus 7. The iPad mini also weighs more and is thinner, so it is easier to hold. The iPad mini cannot hope to compete with the iPad 4, but then it was not really designed to be a competitor to the more advanced machine. The iPad mini was designed to be a smaller version of the iPad 2. This may be why the Nexus 7 beats the iPad mini in a few respects, because the Nexus 7 is competing with a technology from the iPad 2 era. The Nexus 7 may not measure up so well to more modern versions of the standard-sized iPad.
